Ireland - North Coast Scenic Drive

The Mussenden Temple, built in the 1700s as a library, is perched right on the edge of the cliffs. The temple is named in honour of the Earl-Bishop's cousin, Mrs Frideswide Mussenden. Originally you could drive a horse and cart right around the temple but erosion has brought it much closer to the edge. The inscription around the dome says 'Tis pleasant, safely to behold from shore, the rolling ship and hear the tempest roar'.
